The first tag is online

That's it, the very first pioupiou is online!

A week that he is wisely perched. A windsurf mast, three pieces of string, and that's how we redecorate the roof of the mobile home.

First observation, but not least: it works!

Since I installed it, the beacon has not crashed yet. That's a pretty good sign.

It captures far!

The Sigfox network lives up to my expectations. The closest relay antenna is located in Rochefort.

It is not a small player this antenna!

I find it completely crazy: I struggle to have wifi. GSM, let's not even talk about it. And there, the little thing emits barely 30 milliWatts which are picked up without problems 25 kilometers away.

On the other hand, the signal seems very sensitive to the weather (water vapor absorbs the waves).

It picked up well at first, before I messed up the antenna 🙂

Maybe when we have thousands of beacons, we will be able to detect rain zones by analyzing the strength of the signal? Kind of like a speed camera...

So this is what the sweet messages that the beacon sends me look like:

I have already set up the database and the connection from Sigfox to my server. Now all that remains is to make a pretty website to display pretty drawings, so that we can understand this gibberish a little better.

first record

That's pretty good, today was BMS / notice of great expense.

The perfect day to go planchouler.

The beacon made its baptism of fire at 17:38 p.m., recording a gust at 68 km / h, or 37 knots. Not bad for a thing on the roof of a mobile home, among the trees of a campsite.

I'm counting on you to smash this record soon.

This article tells you about the birth of Piou Piou, the first 100% autonomous and affordable sensor to measure the wind live, even where there is no electricity or internet.

  1. On the Cap Corse Nicolas there will be no problem to beat him the record lol
we just have to wait for the beacon

  2. Your project interests me. What a surprise to see that you are doing your tests on the island of Oléron.
    Good continuation 🙂
