Towards an amicable exit?

Towards an amicable exit?

Dear friends

Google Maps crushed Mappy, IGN, and a whole bunch of other players in the cartographic world. There is only one serious alternative left: OpenStreetMap – amateurs who share their passion.

The same is now happening in the weather world. The new entrants to the market are IBM and Monsanto… giants that are investing billions. Our public services are already in decline and will not be able to remain competitive. When all communities will use IBM forecasts, which deputy will still vote for the Météo-France budget? Access to reliable weather information will then be reserved for the elite who can pay. I doubt that the Paragliding / Kitesurfing niche could interest IBM.

What is the relationship with Pioupiou?

I saw with Pioupiou an incredible energy and enthusiasm from the community.

Pioupiou has succeeded in his bet.

For the first time, players from all walks of life (air sports, boating, construction professionals, farmers, etc.) have come together to create an open network of weather sensors. Undeniably, Pioupiou federates.

Look at all the stations on the market: none have this spirit of "sharing by default". On the contrary, many manufacturers keep the data to resell it.

Even amateur networks, such as ROMMA, Infoclimat or Blitzortung – despite the remarkable work of their members – do not have a real open-data policy.

I believe in Pioupiou. I believe in the spirit of Pioupiou. The project is good. It can't miss.

The Pioupiou 2 still needs a final tweak or two on the go, but it's a great product – one that I'm proud of.

I am convinced that Pioupiou has all the assets to be the starting point for the OpenstreetMap of the weather forecast. It is the small dust around which the snowflake will crystallize. Only credible competitor to Monsanto and IBM in 10 years. (Hardly modest… But we laughed at OpenStreetMap not long ago). The combined energy of enthusiasts can do amazing things.

Unfortunately, the game is more complicated than expected. From weeks, I am looking for an amicable solution to the conflict in which Pioupiou got bogged down.

Given recent events, I have lost all confidence in my shareholders. I feel like I was stabbed in the back. It is very difficult for me to imagine a future where I will live with them in the same society.

Despite this, I want to see Pioupiou succeed. First, because it's the project that animated the last four years of my life. But also, and above all, because I believe that Pioupiou really has this major role to play in the fight for open and free access to quality weather.

Let's be clear :

– I don’t want Pioupiou to die

– I no longer have the health to take care of Pioupiou myself

– I do not wish to give the fruit of my labor to the shareholders without proper consideration

– I can no longer trust my shareholders to run the shop without me

I therefore propose to set up a 1991 law association, composed exclusively of current Pioupiou customers, and to which I will donate all of my shares and voting rights.

Thus, I will have the certainty that the spirit of the project will remain intact, while no longer having to wear down my health and rub shoulders with people I no longer trust.

As it stands, the shareholder agreement does not allow me to sell my shares to anyone other than Faktory (they are smart!). I therefore need the agreement of all current shareholders. I therefore asked them to accept this proposal, in the interest of the project and to prevent the legal war from getting bogged down even more. They have 48 hours to respond to me.

  1. It would also be desirable for them to honor pre-orders of the Pioupiou V2. We've been waiting for more than 6 months, no communication... Limit it smells like a scam

  2. hello, Nicolas, many of us around me want to support your projects (the paragliding weather site has become almost essential) without really knowing what and how to do it.
I'm waiting for your news on this blog, which I relay to my acquaintances (and FB network)

  3. Hello Nicolas
thank you for all this great work done for us with pioupiou and mto paragliding
you speak of an association law of 1991? what is the difference with the association law of 1901?

good luck to you, hoping for a quick and favorable outcome for all
