On the way to series 2

On the way to series 2

As you can imagine… When there is no news on this blog, it means that the agenda is very full.

We can sum it up with nice graphics:

One constant thing is the number of hours available in a single day.

One thing that grows exponentially is the number of tasks that absolutely must be completed quickly. Everything is urgent: finishing the website, taking care of the mobile applications, preparing the second series of Pioupiou, ensuring the financial sustainability of the company...

The big lesson I learned throughout this project is that you can't do everything alone. Whoooaa! What an exceptional discovery!

There are two ways to deal with this: continue alone to go straight for the wall at 180 km / h, or surround yourself with a team.

Personally, I'm still pretty rational, so I chose to avoid the crash. Phew, saved! Hallelujah, as they say.

Brief. We had to set priorities and find the right people.

The new Pioupiou team

It starts to take shape. For now, I'm in the middle of casting. We are potentially 6:

– Mr me − the technique guru

– Gaël − the sage of trade

– Eric − Head of Funding

– Nicolas 2 − the windsurfing entrepreneur looking for a new adventure

– Paul and his box − the founding masters of the mobile app

– Fabien − the Yoda master of the code, hired for the new meteo-paraglider

The ultimate goal is to have a box that works almost without me. This way, I will have time to put 100% of my resources on what I do best: innovate by designing cutting-edge technical solutions, keep this hacker spirit, bring my vision to open-data, and of course write this blog 🙂

We started to formalize all that: steps with the lawyer to transform the company, business plan, long-term strategy... It takes a bit of time, but that's where the number one emergency lies. Nicolas' project alone is over. We are truly entering a new era.

Castings are still open. So if you want to get involved humanly (= you have at least 2 days a week to devote only to Pioupiou) or financially, now is the time to show up. My email is nicolas@pioupiou.fr

(Finally, I had to end the trial period of Lise. I had nothing against her, but I had misidentified the points on which I needed help. Not easy…)

The second series

The second urgency is to launch the orders and the production for the second series.

Why is it so urgent?

The first reason is that we have more in stock, and it takes a long time to manufacture. By ordering now, you will be delivered in February. So don't hang around too long if you want them for spring.

The second reason is that as long as the orders are closed, there is not a single euro that goes into the coffers. This is a silly but essential problem. Without money, nothing to sustain the company… I will have a lot of expenses to launch the new series and to restructure the company (lawyer…). It is therefore essential to have cash quickly. It will also allow me to pay freelancers on certain subjects such as the website − to free up a little more time.

Orders will therefore be re-opened from Monday evening − via the website http://pioupiou.fr . It will be the same Pioupiou as the current one, with a few
design improvements based on the experience of hundreds
of Pioupious installed today.

And since this is a priority subject, there will be a -10% discount, ie €291,60 including tax instead of €324 for orders placed before October 18 at midnight.

  1. Hello Nicolas,

An essential question that you have certainly studied:

Like all markets, the Pioupious market certainly has a limit, because their lifespan will be long (before the need for replacement) and the number of sites that will be equipped is not infinite.

Any idea on the potential number of buyers, and the time allowed before saturation?

    Sincerely

    1. all the eastern part of Cap Corse north of Bastia I guess it must be the same topo west side of Cap Corse
for the east of Cape Brando, Pietracorbara Luri

    2. too bad, I'm aiming for an installation at Canari :(.
A test report sent by Pioupiou indicated correct coverage, so I still believe it a little.

  2. I am a pilot (recreational aviation) and I do mountain flying on altisurfaces. Having a pioupiou on the altisurfaces would surely be very useful. Small potential market of forty units.
In addition, my club manages a private aerodrome; small grass track in the countryside; rural aviation. Knowing the wind precisely before leaving would also be a good thing. There are several dozen small private tracks like this.

  3. Superb project and wonderful innovation for world paragliding.. should still improve future forecasts 😀

You thought of adding a temperature sensor?

Thank you so much for making this up and for all the transparency 😉

    1. It's perfect to hear the difference between landing and take-off and get an idea of the potential to rise 😉

    2. Temperature is a very delicate quantity to measure. Certainly it's easy to put a sensor but from there it measures the air temperature... which must be protected from any radiation and at the same time very ventilated! In other words, impossible in a pioupiou. A+

    3. can be outside with the humidity probe, (allowing to calculate the height of the base of the cloud) connected to the antenna..? only ideas

  4. there is software to draw wind roses from piuopiou data
Hydrognomon and WRPLOT. in the 2 logs we can from excel file draw something from its 2 logs
I don't know Excel well, I'm having trouble finding the right format for these logs to read the data to me. If someone has already used these logs, any advice would be welcome.

  5. Hello Nicolas,
    Really a very nice project.
Have you considered, for a few extra euros (taking into account the cost of the cms components) to add to the measurement of the wind that of the atmospheric pressure ((and luminosity))? (Okay, there is also the temperature, but it is more directly exposed to disturbances linked to sunshine, and visibility, which is more difficult to measure).

    1. Certainly we have the atmospheric pressure, yes but it is for the moment completely fanciful!!!
Perso je l'ai viré de mes API.

    2. To be confirmed, but I have the impression that the pressure measurement is distorted by an external element. I haven't had time to look at it in detail yet.

      – Either it is due to condensation on the sensor
      – Either it is due to the wind which rushes into the case
      – Either it is due to components that were damaged during assembly

On the new Pioupiou series, there is no longer a pressure sensor. It is an element whose added value is irrelevant in relation to the constraints that it adds to manufacturing.

    3. Hello Nicolas. I love participating in this project, exchange and investment including on bugs 😉 so we participate in the development! Too immersed in the mto not to realize by simple comparison that there were precision concerns, I did not immediately question the pioupiou but more my location or even the other measurements... That said, I I was going around in circles on the differences, lately the pressure seems to be stalling, strange, but I haven't done any readings or EXCEL tables… and I'm just waiting to operate pioupiou, Open heart, I remain a fan! 😉 (y)

    4. I didn't pay attention to the pressure of my pioupiou, but the old idea of an interactive mto model using the field of pressures really appealed to me (without being sure of the result). Obviously making a measurement is not easy and you have to be sure not to recover the dynamic pressure of the wind shifts...
      A + Pascal

    5. It would seem that the Pioupiou/MF pressure differences are due to the altitude of the Pioupiou!
I notice that those located by the sea or at low altitude are relatively fair.
On the other hand, the higher the altitude, the greater the difference.
      Why ??

  6. yes for the axis what about? And for the new site and the pioupiou edit page which still announces that this option will be available in a few days….
A few days for 3 months it starts to do a lot….
It is good to give information but this information is not very useful to us if it is never respected.
Doing a 2nd series to bail out the funds is good, but completing the 1st would be the priority I think.

    1. I received the new bearings, new bushings, but still not the axles. My supplier was supposed to send them to me a week ago but he is late. I relaunched it on Wednesday, and I'll call it again on Monday. That said, you have to be tolerant, we are already on very short deadlines for the industry. The classic lead-time is generally 2 to 3 months. Not much to do with the general public trade to which we are accustomed.

With these bearing worries, I was delayed in my schedule. For now, I'm in charge of ensuring the sustainability of the project in the long term. That means dealing with day-to-day worries, doing the accounting, finding the right partners, reorganizing the business, and relaunching orders... Because as things stand, if I fall ill, crash my car, does not repair the bearings or that there is no more cash, you will have to file for bankruptcy − and therefore no longer need the "edit" function, since there will no longer be a website… Boom! Obviously, we are not there yet, but it does not prevent that we must take care of it before the problem arises. So those are my top priorities.

    2. Obviously, the "edit" function remains a major priority. And precisely, the fact of restarting orders frees up a little cash to move forward on the development of the site and apps. For information, a good web freelancer costs between 500 and 1000 € excluding tax per day.

    3. The site and the "edit" function reinforce the image of the product and will contribute to the sustainability of the project in the long term. The market is not exclusively made up of geeks.
It is therefore necessary to evolve the interface, to make it take a step to show that things are moving.
What was announced on August 22 was already not bad.

    4. Regarding freelance, if you publish specifications or at least a slightly technical expression of need, I think that there will be a few of us who can help you "cheaply" 😉
